Devourer of Souls

Devourer of Souls is the story of Fen, a young, dead woman who exists in Thurkhill, a purgatory-like afterlife. Having suffered terrible loss at a young age and endured years of abuse, Fen died living rough on the streets of London. Thurkhill is home to countless souls to have died in the city, with issues left unresolved. It is a world of far flung islands, from those bearing sprawling cities to tiny, desolate isles.

Fen is one of the few gifted with the ability to rift; to travel between Thurkhill and London at will. She, and her partner Selena, use her power to gather information from London, for paying souls in Thurkhill. For her part, Selena is a devourer, one of those who has chosen to consume the souls of others. Devourers exist in the shadows of Thurkhill; they are its secretive ruling class; its law enforcing bounty hunters; the fearful creatures wrought of souls gone mad. Once you become a devourer, there is no going back.

Jack has long used Fen’s services to keep track of his wife and daughter. In the wake of their unexplained disappearance, he wants Fen to return him to London to find them himself. Jack’s friend Nick, having recently learned that his fiancée may have been involved in his death, also seeks out Fen’s help. Through misuse of the information she provides, Nick inadvertently brings Fen to the attention of Warwick Carver. Warwick is a high ranking operative of the ruling elite, tasked with capturing or consuming rifters like Fen to rob them of their powers.

Warwick’s pursuit of Fen and her companions sets in motion an unexpected chain of events. It also serves to reignite a dangerous feud between Warwick and the mysterious Michael, Fen’s one time protector. Caught between these two ancient souls and with no one to rely on but each other, Fen, Selena, Nick and Jack are plunged headlong into the dark and violent world of Thurkhill’s devourers. It will take everything they have to survive life after death.
